OVERVIEW OF WAGEDO

WHY WAGEDO?

The West African Green Energy Development Organisation (WAGEDO) is a youth-led organisation founded by H2 students of the International Program in Energy and Hydrogen at WASCAL, driven by a shared commitment to addressing global energy challenges. What began as a student initiative has since grown into an officially registered international organisation dedicated to tackling pressing energy issues, with a particular focus on West Africa. In this region, access to electricity remains a major challenge: while the electrification rate in West Africa stands at 57.24% , several countries fall well below 50%. This energy gap not only limits economic development but also hinders education, healthcare, and overall quality of life. WAGEDO positions itself as a platform for innovative solutions by leveraging the potential of youth empowerment. By engaging young people in research, capacity building, and practical energy projects, WADEDO aims to create sustainable pathways to improve electricity access and promote the use of clean and renewable energy sources.

Through international collaboration and regional engagement, WAGEDO seeks to bridge the gap between innovation and implementation, ensuring that energy solutions are not only technologically sound but also socially inclusive and economically viable.

The governance of WAGEDO is entrusted to its Executive Committee, which was elected in November 2024 for a two-year mandate. The Committee is composed of five dedicated members who embody the organisation’s mission and values. It includes the President, the Vice President, the Secretary General, the Communications Officer, and the Financial Officer. In addition to the Executive Committee, WAGEDO relies on a broader organisational structure to ensure efficiency and impact. The organisation has 15 national coordinators, one in each West African country, strengthening its regional presence and outreach. Furthermore, WAGEDO benefits from various supporting roles, including project managers and other strategic positions. Altogether, 35 positions form the operational backbone of WAGEDO, working collectively to implement its initiatives and achieve the goals set by the Committee.

PRESENTATION OF THE ACTION PLAN

After their election in November 2024, the Executive Committee held a meeting to present and validate its two-year action plan. Members reaffirmed their commitment and shared their expectations for WAGEDO role in addressing energy challenges. The plan, now under implementation, serves as the roadmap guiding the organization’s activities and partnerships.
